I have always been inspired by movement and conflict on both an interpersonal and global scale. I believe violence to be aggressive and tangible, but also micro and ethereal, felt on an internal, emotional level. With the recent socio-political climate gravitating towards forces of oppression and suppression, I have begun to feel simultaneously helpless next to their magnitude, and activated to do something about it. I am inspired now by movement and conflict and how they connect to the larger practice of Social Movement, combining Art with Activism. I desire to affect the audience community and have an impact on social change through the medium of physical conflict theatre. I use my experience in the techniques of physical conflict theatre to explore the connections between theatrical violence and performance with how it can combat actual violence. Inspired by my own journey to my authentic self and the war waged within and without, I use my art to address the battles that affect me on a daily basis. Through the medium of violence design, movement, and performance, and focusing on the techniques of research, exploration, and experimentation, I reimagine how the public looks at conflict, and especially how to resolve it. My goal is to challenge the norms of traditional violence design and use movement, conflict resolution, and storytelling in an innovative way to defeat the forces restraining growth, healing, and change.
